Revealing intrinsic and extrinsic piezoelectric contributions in phase coexistence system of PbTiO3-BiScO3

PbTiO3-BiScO3 ceramics possess high piezoelectricity and Curie temperature simultaneously, presenting a very promising candidate for high-temperature actuators transducers. Figuring out the underlying piezoelectric mechanisms is of great importance its application. Herein, we reveal quantified intrinsic extrinsic contributions to electrostrain morphotropic composition with phase coexistence by employing advanced in situ electrical biasing high-energy synchrotron X-ray diffraction combined STRAP (strain, texture, Rietveld analysis piezoceramics from diffraction) methodology. An electric field-induced transformation observed between coexisting tetragonal rhombohedral phases. It found that contributes most domain switching strain, while predominant lattice strain phase. With fraction changes, quantitative results demonstrate mainly contributed strain. In contrast, irreversible dominates large remanent implies transforming into reversible would be strategic direction improve response. The present provide further understanding could help advance application PbTiO3-BiScO3.
